Kari Treadwell Ruehlen

This body of paintings grew out out of a project, "Surface: Third Eye Broadcast" (2015) and began around 2018. While I have been exploring material processes utilizing various acrylic

mediums, water colors, wax, dry pigment and surfaces, I am inspired by lunar imagery, illuminations and our personal relationship to the moon. The process of layering, drying, and cracking is directly informed by semi-arid climates (wind, intense sunlight, etc). Each painting varies size and shape and are anywhere from 5X7 inches to more than 5 ft, which are painted on hand-stretched canvas, repurposed panels, and wood.
